Is there ever such a thing as too much wine?! And better yet, SANGRIA?! Summer is not over yet, and with barbeques and get-togethers commencing as we soak up the last bit of summer, here’s a few facts that just might possibly justify the over consumption of those tantalizing tannins…

Resveratrol is a compound found in the skin of red grapes used to make both red and white wine. Resveratrol has been receiving a lot of attention in the media recently for its anti-aging and antioxidant properties and ability to protect the body against the kind of damage linked to cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and diabetes. Resveratrol has also been proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Resveratrol is plentiful in the skins and peels of grapes, berries and certain other fruits. It is also found in the skins of many berries including blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. So what are the facts?! We scoured the internet for credibility and this is a little bit of what we found:

In a 2011 study, the American Journal of Clinical Dermatology, found that people who used a gel containing resveratrol saw that after 30 days, their acne was reduced by 54 percent. Another study in 2012 by Heather Hausenblas; an associate professor at the College of Health and Human Performance reported to CBS News stating that people who ingested resveratrol orally for more than 60 days had significant improvement in the moisture, roughness and elasticity of their skin and reduced age spots.

It doesn’t stop there. In fact, in 2013, The Huffington Post further spiked our interested in the benefits of resveratrol by releasing an article proclaiming that resveratrol is the miracle factor in slowing the aging process and greatly improve appearance of our skin.

So the next time its 5pm on a Monday evening… You get home after a long day of work, throw on some sweats, open your fridge and spot this past weekend’s left over sangria, reach for the pitcher and think, “This can’t possibly be good for me?”
